Four errors recur in almost every published ROI figure and each inflates the result.
Deflection multiplied by cost per contact
This assumes every deflected conversation would otherwise have been an agent contact at the average cost, which is untrue on both counts.
Deflected conversations skew simple, so they would have cost less than average even if they had occurred.
Ignoring repeat contacts
A deflected conversation followed by a contact through another channel produced no saving and is counted as one.
This is a substantial correction and it is almost never applied in vendor calculations.
Omitting maintenance
Knowledge upkeep, quality review and configuration are ongoing costs that rarely appear alongside the platform subscription.
Their absence makes the return look considerably better than it is and produces cases that collapse under examination.
No baseline
Without measurement from before deployment, any claim about improvement is an assertion rather than a finding.
Most organisations discover this after deploying, at which point the comparison is unavailable.
