Five properties predict containment far better than any industry or technology comparison.
The answer exists and is documented
Requests with a definite answer that someone has written down are containable, and requests where the answer lives in an expert's head are not.
This is the first filter and it is a knowledge question rather than a technology one.
The data is accessible
A request requiring the customer's order, account or booking is containable only where the assistant can read that data.
This is why the same use case contains well in one deployment and not in another with identical software.
Any action is reversible
Actions that can be undone if wrong are safe to automate, and irreversible ones require confidence that is harder to establish.
This shapes which actions organisations permit more than technical capability does.
No judgement required
Where the correct response follows from rules, automation applies them consistently, and where it depends on weighing circumstances it does not.
The presence of the word usually in a policy is a reliable indicator that judgement is involved.
Low emotional weight
A customer who is upset needs acknowledgement that automation handles poorly, regardless of whether the underlying request is simple.
Emotional load frequently overrides the other four properties entirely.
